I’m not saying that Glenn Beck raped and murdered a girl in 1990, I just think it’s interesting that he hasn’t provided any proof otherwise.
Why won’t he talk about it? What is he hiding?

Yacht's "See Mystery Lights" is the greatest thing to happen to Portland...

…since my birth.  That’s a long and growing interim during which nothing truly great has happened to my beloved city of origin, save for Commissioner Sam’s elevation to the Mayoral seat…which is now a somewhat dubious event mired in an ultimately prosaic sex scandal.  Nevermind that.  ”See Mystery Lights” has all of the ingredients to pick Portland out of its economic and political slump.  It both typifies and perfects Portland’s fringe niche with triumphant ruminations on the existence of God (conclusion, there almost certainly isn’t one), spiritual aspirations (the afterlife isn’t some place that you go), summer, and illegally downloading music.  This is Revenge of the Disaffected, The Jaded Strike Back, The Triumph of the Beautiful Social Misfits over the Cocksure Gym-Bodies of the Mainstream, and The Apology of the Bored-to-Death-with-American-Conservatism (“and it’s boring, it’s boring, it’s boring, it’s boring!!!”).  This is what the creators of the “Keep Portland Weird” campaign should have hoped for but never dreamed would come to fruition.

The segment in the video for “Psychic City” in which bandmates Jona Bechtolt and Claire Evans make out is so striking, and at first I couldn’t decide why.  Is it the fact that people don’t do that in videos?  Or is it simply the fact that music videos almost always go in for tawdry and low-brow sexuality, an artifice of love, and that the very real display of love and sincere, mutual sexual attraction in this video innovates through authenticity, by approximating, after a collage of religious and occult imagery, the reality of love and lust.

This is it, I’m positive: the best album of 2009.  Long live Yacht, long live Portland weird!
